To have a clutch this worn under 100k miles, this thing must have been absolutely abused off-road.

Question: What do the springs inside the clutch plate do?

It can always be worse. The shop I go to for bigger jobs has replaced a girl’s clutch three times over the past 11,000 miles. Yikes

So the plate is able to twist in relation to the center piece by compressing the spring?

3 times in 11k miles? no one is that bad, there is a different, under lying issue there.
